1800's British Naval Officer's / Midshipman's
Dress Dirk (sold) |
A good condition British naval officer's or midshipman's dress
dirk with ivory or maybe bone grip.

Good example of one of the more popular "patterns" of
British naval officer's dress dirks from the 1800's; unlike other
bladed weapons, dirks were not regulation. This ivory or bone handled
dirk has the so-called "propeller" style quillons popular
with enthusiast collectors. The 29.5 cm blade has a single fuller,
patina and is fairly firm in the hilt. Although it is a dress dirk,
it would still have also been worn on board the vessel and no doubt
would be used if circumstances required. Further pictures available
upon request.
