1854 Pattern Royal Marines Light Infantry
Sword (Sold) |
A very rare 1854 pattern Royal Marines Light Infantry sword with
scabbard.

Very rare and unique variant of the 1845/1854 pattern for British
infantry swords; this much shorter Royal Marines sword was designed
for use in close quarter naval battles. Made by Robert T Mole &
Sons circa 1900, the original shortened blade for naval use has
clearly been shortened a little further by accident or in conflict
at some stage (as reflected also by the repaired scabbard). Otherwise
the sword is in very good condition with good fishskin / ring bindings
and the blade firm in the hilt. If it were not for the blade tip
loss my price for this sword would be treble what it is. Further
pictures available upon request.
