Model 1860 (US Civil War) Field Officers'
Sword dated 1861 (Sold) |
Good owner initialed example of an 1860 model US field officer's
sword from the American Civil War, complete with scabbard.

Very nice example of a Union field officer's sword dated 1861 and
original owner initialed "A S". This is an 1860 model
sword showing the date "1861" and presumably the sword
number "65" to the blade. The maker or more likely retailer's
name of "W M Ketchen Tariffville Conn." is etched to the
ricasso. The sword generally is on very good condition but with
some patina to the blade; the reverse side of the scabbard has a
fair amount of patina too. The 76cm blade is firm in the hilt and
the grip is solid too. The blade sheaths well in the scabbard and
there is no visible sign of damage, repair or looseness.
Given the sword is dated to the beginning of the civil war, it
is fair to assume it must have seen field service. Further pictures
available upon request.
