1895 Pattern Victorian Infantry Officer’s
Dress Sword For Sale |
1895 Pattern Victorian Infantry Officer’s Nickel Plated
Dress Sword.

Exceptionally good condition and very rare 1895 pattern infantry
sword; it is the same as the still used 1897 pattern except the
guard was not turned down and frayed uniforms quite easily (hence
why the 1897 pattern with a turned down guard replaced it 2 years
later). This sword is marked to outfitters WW White of Frances Street
in Woolwich London but was probably made, by reference to the copper
proof slug and surrounding etching, by Hobson & Sons of Lexington
Street London. The owner's initials "IB" and various decorative
etching including Victorian royal cypher are relatively clear. The
nickel plating in a few small places on the blade and scabbard has
bubbled as you would expect. The 80 cm blade is firm in the hilt,
the fishskin complete and in good condition, the ring bindings complete
and firm also, the scabbard in good condition except the wood liner
is disintegrating. I would accept £400 for this sword. Further
pictures available upon request. Item reference number 136 / Box44-1m
