1897 P British Infantry Officer's (Cumberland
1st Rifles) Sword (sold) |
Good condition high quality Hobson made 1897 P British Victorian
infantry officer's sword etched to the Cumberland 1st Rifles and
with the original owner's initials

Very nice example of a high quality Hobson made 1897P infantry
officer's sword, Victorian, well etched with "Cumberland 1st
R. V." (rifle volunteers) and original owner's initials "C.
I. J." so the original owner's name and with that service history
could be found with research.

Slightly longer than normal 33 inch blade is well etched with a
little dark patina, but not much, and is firm in the hilt. Hilt
a little aged but generally good and well preserved fishskin grip
with ring bindings (twisted wire) in good shape. Lovely early leather
scabbard with steel throat in good order; sword sheathes well. Further
pictures available upon request.
