1899 Pattern Swiss Cavalry Officer's Sword
(Sold) |
Very good condition Swiss Cavalry Officer's Sword (1899 Pattern),
scabbard and sword knot..

Marked to Mphr & Speyer of Berlin, this Swiss Cavalry Officer's
sword must be one the world's most functional yet aesthetic swords
ever made. Light for its size, the agapanthus scrolled pierced hilt
providing adequate hand protection plus ventilation, the thumb rest
section of the backpiece and leather finger hold within the bowl
to prevent slipping, the 84.5 cm straight blade) point and cutting
edge still sharp), all going to making this probably the finest
cavalry sword ever, as well as one of the most attractive. The British
claim to have made the world's best cavalry sword with their 1908
pattern; I say this Swiss sword is better. This sword is a must
for any serious collector as a benchmark to rate other swords by.
In very good condition, the blade almost devoid of marks and firm
in the hilt, the scabbard in very good order too. The fishskin grip
in good condition with ring bindings firm.
