1796 Patt. British Light Cavalry Trooper's Sabre by Woolley (Sold)

A good Napoleonic Wars 1796 pattern British cavalry trooper's sabre made by Woolley of Birmingham.

Authentic 1796p's in this condition are becoming increasingly more difficult and expensive to obtain. This one was made by Woolley of Birmingham, England and is correctly marked to this effect on the blade's spine and scabbard, so you know the scabbard is almost certainly original to the sabre. Correctly stamped "1" under a crown, the inspector's mark / number for Woolley. What looks like the worn remains of the troop, trooper and possibly regiment number are on the langet (please do not ask for a photo, they are so feint they can not be photo'd and may not even be markings, though I am pretty sure they are).

The very good 32 1/2 inch blade is firm in the hilt, the hilt generally good, the grip with original leather but the ring bindings / twisted grip wire has gone. Sheathes well, scabbard in good overall order. Further pictures available upon request. My item reference number is 514 (2).
