1796P Scottish Light Cavalry Officer's Sabre (Sold)

A rare 1796 pattern British light cavalry officer's sabre etched with the emblem of Saint Andrew for a Scottish officer.

If you are a Scottish sword collector I would wager this is one you most likely do not have already, so snap it up quick while it is available. A 1796 pattern British light cavalry officer's sabre for a Scotsman, etched with the emblem of St Andrew. The light cavalry sword feared by the French, rightfully so, this one carried by an officer from north of the border, which I think was quite a rare occurrence.

Typical wide flared hatchet point blade, 32 inches, firm in the hilt, with the remnants of etching including the all important St Andrew and cross. Leather grip in good order, ring bindings generally good but have come loose on one turn. Sheathes well in its original scabbard. A good 1796P light cavalry sabre as it is, I suspect made by Gill though I can not see any maker's name. Further pictures available upon request. My item reference number is 515 (1).
