1897 P ERII British Infantry Officer's Sword, 6th Gurkha Rifles (sold)

A rare ERII 1897 pattern British infantry officer's sword for the 6th Queen Elizabeth's Own Gurkha Rifles.

You will not find many of these on the open market. A very scarce British 6th Queen Elizabeth's Own Gurkha Rifles officer's sword. Only a select band of British officers commanded their Nepalese soldier ranks, and swords like this are never normally seen coming onto the market; they are cherished too much. Amalgamated in 1994 into the Royal Gurkha Rifles, their garrison was in Hong Kong. Renowned for their fierce combat and bravery, the 6th Queen Elizabeth's Own Gurkha Rifles was one of Britain's most respected and feared regiments.

The sword itself is in very good condition, some slight age marks here and there; probably as good a condition 6th Gurkha sword as you could find anywhere. The 32.5 inch blade is well etched, including with the 6th Gurkha's badge, and firm in the hilt. The hilt is in very good order, the nickel-plating intact as far as I can see. The black fishskin grip in superb condition also, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. Complete with leather field service scabbard in generally very good order (a few wear / knock marks hear and there), the sword sheathes very well.
