1854 Pattern Irish Guards Officers ERII Sword
by Wilkinsons (sold) |
In very good condition, a stunning Irish Guards sword etched with
battle honours by Wilkinsons.

Is this sword in parade ground condition? Just, I suspect; the
sheer Wilkinsons quality and etched battle honours making up for
any brand new sparkle. The serial number is 76831, so the sword
was made in 1956; it is in very good condition for a sword over
50 years old. Although old, it bears the Royal Cypher for Queen
Elizabeth 2nd, so is still very much correct for a serving Irish
Guards officer if he is not beaten to this sword by a collector
looking for such a pristine example.

The 32.5 inch blade is in excellent condition; the etching still
crisp and clear with Irish Guards battle honours to the Hindenberg
Line and Hazebrouck in WW1. Blade firm in the hilt; the plating
of both in nearly new order. The fishskin grip a little aged, not
much; the twisted wire grip bindings in good order. Original metal
scabbard; sword sheathes well but the scabbard does not hold onto
the blade if you release your grip. Original sword knot a little
aged; perhaps needing replacement if the sword is for parade use.
A scarce sword in superb condition. Further / full sized pictures
available upon request. My item reference number is 664 (271).
