1827 Pattern 1850's British Naval Officer's Sword (sold)

A scarce 1850's British naval officer's sword and scabbard, in good overall condition.

Circa 1857 to 1860, a scarce British naval sword with a curved fullered blade, reinforced suspension ring scabbard and early folding guard with no locking pin mechanism. Made by Fraser and Davis of Portsmouth, this is a fighting as much as a dress sword.

The blackened (patina) 31 inch blade with early style etching still clear is firm in the hilt. The folding guard is in good order. The fishskin is grubby but still good, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. Sheathes well into its gilt fittings and black leather scabbard, with reinforced suspension mounts. A very good example of a sword when Britannia well and truly ruled the waves. Further / full sized pictures available upon request. My item reference number is 694 (253).
