1897P GV King's Own Royal Regiment Presentation
Sword For Sale |
A 1932 Wilkinson presentation sword to then Lieutenant RA Heape
of the King's Own Royal Regiment.

Made by Wilkinson Sword, serial number 61950, in 1929 and etched
on the sword to RA Heape, King's Own Royal Regiment. I believe the
location of the etching and style means this was a sword presented
to RA Heape, rather than one he had his name added to, probably
given to him by his family. RA Heape survived World War 2 despite
his battalion being virtually wiped out in Leros Greece (November
1943) and made Major. So plenty of data and scope for anyone interested
in researching this man further. A photo of him in India as a Captain
can be seen here: King's
Own Royal Regiment Museum (he is probably wearing this very
sword).

In good but well aged general order, the blade well and evenly
patinated, firm in the hilt. The hilt with some rust spots / bubbles
but generally good. The fishskin well worn in places, the twisted
grip wire grip bindings in good shape. Leather scabbard and sword
not remains included. I would be prepared to accept £400 for
this sword. Further pictures available upon request. Item reference
number 707 / Box 280.
