1800's Napoleonic British Foot Artillery
Private's Hanger / Sword (sold) |
A scarce 1800's Napoleonic Wars British foot artillery private's
hanger / sword, made by Woolley.

Called the "Spanish Hanger" because it was apparently
introduced during the Peninsula War, many are believed to have had
service lives beyond the artillery when these swords were relegated
to prison warders and even Customs. So they had a long harsh service
life. 28 1/4 inch blade well patinated, marked to Woolley on the
spine, a little loose in the brass hilt, the iron grip missing a
small section. Feint markings on one langet. This sword may well
have been at Waterloo. Further / full sized images upon request.
