1720-1740 Scottish Highland Officer's Basket
Hilted Broadsword for sale |
A superb pre-Culloden Scottish highland officer's basket hilt
broad sword in very good condition.

This fine Scottish basket hilted broadsword was around at the time
of Culloden, and may even have been at that most famous Jacobite
Rebellion battle which saw the death of around 1000 highlanders
loyal to Bonnie Prince Charlie. It is in very good order indeed
and a well made, well balanced fighting weapon.

Made for a right handed Scottish infantry officer (the basket room
is spaced for a right handed person), the 32 3/4 blade is well cleaned
/ polished but in very good order and firm in the hilt. The hilt
is magnificent and in very good order. The fishskin grip and two
gold Turk's Heads are very good, though the fishskin has become
rigid (through being dry) and is a little loose from the hardwood
base underneath. But it looks and feels very fine. As this is such
a rare item in such outstanding condition, £3250 is both a
very fair price and a very good investment as these swords once
bought by collectors rarely enter the market again. My reference
number is 736 - Box 294-1.18m. Full sized / further images available
upon request.
