1796P Blue & Gilt British Infantry Officer's
Sword (sold) |
A good "For My King and Country" etched 1796 pattern
British infantry officer's sword with worthwhile blue and gilt etch
remaining.

A lovely 1796 pattern British infantry officer's sword, blue and
gilt etched, "For My King & Country" one side, "For
My Country & King" the other.

The 32 1/8 inch blade has still some worthwhile blue and gilt etch
remaining, though the section near the end of the etch has some
pitting, plus other spots and patina elsewhere. The blade is firm
in the hilt, the hilt retaining some gilt, the folding guard in
good order. The silver wire grip is complete and original and generally
very good, but there is a small section that has separated (can
be glued to improve and secure), not especially visible.
I think £650 is a very good price for this sword given its
evocative, unusual / rare etching to the blade's forte. Further
/ full sized images available upon request. My reference is 743
(314).
