1908P Wilkinson Leather Clad British Cavalry
Trooper's Sword (sold) |
An exceptionally rare WW1 fully leather clad 1908P British cavalry
trooper's sword, dated 1914, for a premier regiment.

An early WW1, dated November 1914, British cavalry trooper's sword
made by Wilkinson for a premier / elite cavalry regiment, with the
scabbard, outer guard bowl and inner guard bowl all fully leather
clad.

This is one of if not the most attractive 1908P's I have ever seen.
Fully clad in leather, clearly for an elite cavalry regiment at
the beginning of World War One. I pondered whether to treat the
leather (leather balsam - an inexpensive treatment that enriches
the leather) but decided not to, as I truly like the existing aged
look. The 35 inch blade in very good condition and firm in the hilt.
The bowl guard and grip in good order, the leather aged but robustly
sound. Equally, the leather clad steel scabbard in very good order.
The leather sword knot has broken in one place. Sword sheathes and
draws well. These leather clad cavalry swords rarely come onto the
market. Further / full sized pictures available upon request. Item
reference number 813.
