Victorian British Royal Naval Officer's Sword
with Claymore Blade (sold) |
Especially rare picquet claymore bladed British Royal Navy officer's
sword in very good condition.

For a Victorian naval sword, this is superb a) because it has
a rare picquet Claymore blade and b) because it is in such good
condition, with good hilt gilt remaining.

The 30 inch blade is in good condition with a little patina here
and there, marked to Highatt (Naval Outfitters & Sword Cutler,
70 High Street, Gosport, 1855-1905) and firm in the hilt. The hilt
is very good with much gilt remaining. The fishskin grip and twisted
grip wire bindings are in very good order also. The folding guard
works well and locates onto the scabbard retaining pin as it should.
The sword knot is quite intricate and very nice, still in good order.
The leather and gilt fitting scabbard is in well above average condition
for such an old sword.
