1821 Pattern George 5th British India Cavalry Officer's Sword for sale

In very good order, a Harman (Calcutta) made 1821 pattern British India service cavalry officer's sword, scabbards and bag.

Quite a rare sword in that only some yeomanry and Indian regiment units continued to carry the 1821P after the introduction of the 1912 pattern. This "GRI" etched specimen is in very good order and I believe the black paint to the hilt is period, no doubt used due to British experiences in the Boer War where shiny officer hilts attracted unwanted attention and bullets.

The nicely etched 35 inch blade is in very good condition, a small amount of rust, nothing much and away from the etching, and firm in the hilt. Again, I believe the black enamel paint to the hilt is period and might consider touching it up. The hilt anyway is in very good condition, as are the grip and twisted grip wire bindings. Complete with two scabbards, both very sound, the leather scabbard a little aged, the steel scabbard with some larger areas of plate having come off; I would consider replating this for sure. The sword sheathes and draws very well. The original heavy linen bag a very nice bonus. A lot of good sword for £450. Further / full-sized pictures available upon request.
