1920 Pattern George 5th British Air Force
Officer's Sword (sold) |
An exceptionally difficult to source George 5th British Air Force
officer's sword.

A scarce authentic George 5th RAF officer's sword; be warned, 99%
of these swords are reproductions; I 100% guarantee this is an authentic
period RAF sword. Made by Wilkinson in 1927 (serial number 60977),
this sword has been semi-restored in that the blade has been replated
and therefore is very bright and new looking. So the sword can be
left as is, or sent to a refurbishment company like Crisps &
Sons to have the hilt, grip and scabbard done.
The 32 /12 inch blade is good and bright, the etching is not as
crisp as it once was because it has been replated of course. Blade
firm in the hilt. The hilt has lost its once bright gilt finish.
The fishskin grip is very worn, though the original twisted grip
wire bindings are present and sound. The scabbard is aged, the fittings
lost their gilt, the shoe / drag / chape is not secure.
This is a very good price for such a rare sword and if you are
looking for a a much better example, pay to have it refurbished!
Top condition George 5th RAF swords easily fetch £1500. Though
I like keeping my swords like this as is, so the choice is yours.
