George 5th 1827 Pattern British Royal Naval
Officer's Sword (sold) |
In very good condition for its age, a WW1 era George V British
Royal Naval officer's sword.

Supremely etched blade marked to Gieve, Matthews and Seagrove (quality
sword cutlers that retailed Wilkinson sword products under their
own name), a George 5th RN officer's sword in well above average
condition.

The 31 1/4 inch blade is in very good condition, a small section
of patina towards the point away from the etching. The blade is
firm in the hilt, the hilt with some gilt remaining, the fishskin
grip in very good order as are the twisted grip wire bindings. The
leather scabbard is aged and a little dulled, but sound. The sword
sheathes and draws well, the locking mechanism on the fold down
section of the hilt works well and locates perfectly onto the retaining
pin of the top scabbard fitment. A well above average example and
well worth £500. Further / full-sized pictures available upon
request. Item reference number 883 (384).
