Grey Etched George 5th Cavalry Officer's Sword For Sale

Rare grey etched 1821 / 1896 Pattern British cavalry officer's sabre.

Lovely, very good condition, high quality "grey etched" 1821 / 1896 Pattern cavalry sword, made by Hawkes & Co., with original scabbard and sword knot, marked to King George 5th.

Made by Hawkes of London with the serial number 8573 stamped into the regulation 35.5 inch blade's spine, this is one of the very last 1821 / 1896 Pattern cavalry officer's sabres ever made as it was superceded by the 1912 Pattern and King George 5th only came to the throne in 1910. The well etched blade is form in the hilt with only a smattering of patina towards the point. The fishskin grip is in very good order with the ring bindings present and tight. The hilt and the scabbard (no dents) are both in very good condition but do have very light pitting. One of the scabbard's throat screws is missing, so consequently it does not hold tight on the blade when sheaved.

This is a very fine and rarely marked / etched version of this superb looking cavalry sword and I could not accept less than £650 for it. Further pictures available upon request. Item reference number 114 / Box73-1.18m
