Selling Militaria such as swords? I am a
buyer! |
Militaria / sword auctions and eBay are expensive; save paying
commissions and fees by selling direct. If you are interested in
selling an antique edged weapon, I am almost certainly interested
in buying it! Even if I am not interested in your particular sword
at the price you want, I can help you with a free listing on a militaria
sales / auction site.
Selling a sword, bayonet or other edged weapon can be a fraught
and costly process; dealers looking to make large profits out of
you, auction houses / rooms charging large percentages to sell through
them. Did you know the average seller's premium at an auction house
is 20% of the hammer price; that is what you pay them. On top of
that the buyer has to pay around the same in buyer's commission
as well! Plus of course you have to get the sword to the auction
house in the first place and collect it again if it does not sell
/ meet your reserve; did you know many auction houses still charge
you a fee even if your sword does not sell!
OK, you can try selling your sword on eBay if they do not remove
it; their rules governing edged weapons are getting tougher and
tougher. Soon eBay will enforce their new USA
Only Sword Rule. Even if you manage to list and keep it on eBay,
unless you describe and present it right, you will almost certanly
earn a lot less than you could or should. In addition eBay has quite
high listing and commission fees, especially if the buyer pays you
by Paypal. Finally, if you accidentally misdescribe your sword,
the buyer may well look to get their money back off you, especially
if you allowed them to pay by Paypal. Some sellers have ended up
paying for postage out and back in again and / or found their item
damaged / somehow lost in the process. There is a lot to know about
selling swords on eBay; if you have no idea how, you will quite
likely make less than at a real auction house.
Let me buy your antique sword(s), etc.
Basically, if you have a sword or other edged weapon that interests
me, I will offer you the current typical auction house sales price
for it based on sales of similar swords in recent auctions, plus
pay for the postage to me (you have to pack it at your own expense,
but strong industrial strength cardboard from which you can make
a sword box can be obtained for free from most garages and / or
cardboard rolls from carpet shops). If you are located in the UK,
you simply need to wrap the sword as I can arrange for a courier
to collect it from you. If you are outside the UK, you would need
to post the item to me (I would pay for that of course).
Just send me somes clear pictures by email and I will tell you
if I am interested and at what price. My email address is on my
Contact Me page.
